Deep in deliberation are (from left) Senior Superintendent of Police Calvin Small, who chaired the judging panel; Annette Osbourne, Human Resource Manager, Jamaica Constabulary Force; Arlene McBean, Chairman of the Jamaica Police Federation; Danielle Cunningham, Corporate Communications Manager at LASCO; and Lisa Bender, Operations Officer at LASCO Chin Foundation.

The final judging for the 2025 LASCO/JCF Saluting Our Heroes Awards saw six (6) exceptional officers demonstrate the professionalism, integrity, and service excellence that define the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF).

According to Senior Superintendent of Police Calvin Small, Chairman of the judging panel, the selection process was both rigorous and transparent – ensuring that the winner will truly reflect the ideals of the JCF and this year’s theme, “Transforming through People, Quality, and Technology (PQT).”

“This year’s judging process emphasised fairness and integrity at every stage,” shared SSP Small. “One of the standout aspects of this year’s judging process was the expansion of the committee. We had eight (8) members, including two (2) representatives from LASCO, the chairman of the Police Federation, Custos of St. Andrew the Honourable Ian Forbes, among others – which brought a wide range of perspectives to the table and in terms of fairness of the proceedings. Each participant was scored individually by all eight members, and the results were averaged (so) it was fair in terms of allocation of marks, as no one person decided on the outcome of the interviews.”

He noted that all six (6) finalists impressed the panel with their poise, professionalism and passion for service.

“We were particularly impressed by their confidence, communication skills, and dedication to community development. We looked at their confidence level and how comfortable they were – for the most part – all six (6) were found to be quite comfortable and able to express themselves. They convinced us that indeed they were participating in community-based activities even to the point of spearheading novel activities while doing their jobs as members of the Force,” SSP Small explained.

National transformation

The finalists were also evaluated on their knowledge of the JCF’s operations, current local and international affairs, and their understanding of LASCO and the LASCO Chin Foundation’s ongoing partnership with the JCF. SSP Small commended the group for their preparation, noting that they demonstrated both pride in their service and awareness of their role in national transformation.

“If we compare this year’s participants with those from last year, I don’t believe we would be able to distinguish between them in terms of their level of preparation, education, and commitment to the JCF, and dedication to Jamaica,” he said, adding that each finalist demonstrated enthusiasm for their job. “We believe all the participants were all well-selected and exceptionally suited to represent their area,” SSP Small emphasised.

Danielle Cunningham, Corporate Communications Manager at LASCO, echoed the panel’s sentiments, highlighting the importance of transparency in the judging process for the awards and to celebrate excellence among finalists.

“At LASCO, we are proud to support a process that celebrates integrity, professionalism, and community commitment. This year’s finalists exemplify the ideals of the JCF and demonstrate how people, quality, and technology come together to transform policing in Jamaica, while simultaneously aligning with missions and visions of LASCO and the LASCO Chin Foundation,” Cunningham shared. “The officers are driven by excellence and compassion for others and want to empower the next generation of Jamaica’s responsible leaders. Their preparation, dedication, and innovative approaches to community engagement make them all truly deserving of this recognition.”

The LASCO/JCF Saluting Our Heroes Awards continue to recognise outstanding members of the Jamaica Constabulary Force who embody the company’s mission of integrity, service and excellence, while highlighting the positive impact of partnerships that uplift Jamaica’s communities.
