Champs stars receive tickets ahead of star-studded meet

The Racers Grand Prix organising committee kicked off their school tour on Thursday, May 29, with visits to three schools where they gifted a total of 750 bleachers tickets.


The first stop was at the champion girls’ team Hydel High on Ferry where they handed over 300 tickets to members of the track team. Hydel, who are guided by Corey Bennett, won only their second ISSA/GraceKennedy Girls Championship at the end of March.

Shantangelo Williams who participates in the throws could not contain her excitement at being given the opportunity to go and watch some of the hometown favourites.


“I am very happy and excited that the Racers Grand Prix organising committee has gifted Hydel High School with 300 tickets to go and watch some very talented athletes at the Grand Prix. I am very excited to see Kishane Thompson run, Oblique Seville, Tia and Tina Clayton and of course Shericka Jackson,” Williams said.


The next stop on the tour was to Monk Street where perennial challengers on both the boys’ and girls’ sides, St. Jago High were handed 150 bleachers tickets.

The final stop on Thursday was at 2A North Street, the home of the defending champions, Kingston College, who were also given 300 bleachers tickets.

Jonathan Clarke who won the Class 2 Boys 110m Hurdles gold medal for Kingston College at Champs was grateful for the tickets and is very excited to see top sprint hurdler Rasheed Broadbell among others perform next weekend.


“We are very grateful for the 300 tickets that we have been given. The athletes that I want to see personally are Rasheed Broadbell, Kishane Thompson and Shericka Jackson, especially Shericka because she has been going through a lot so I want to see how she will be performing in Jamaica,” Broadbell shared.


With the Racers Grand Prix set for Saturday, June 7 at the National Stadium, anticipation is steadily increasing among track and field fans, especially the young athletes who were gifted tickets during the school tour. The meet promises an action-packed showcase of elite athleticism featuring locals stars. As Jamaica continues to produce world-class talent on the track, Racers Grand Prix stands as a celebration of  excellence, inspiration and the island’s unwavering commitment to the sport.
